What is "BUILDING FAMILIES"?
What is "BUILDING FAMILIES"?
Building Families is a virtual child profile-sharing event co-hosted by the New Brunswick Adoption Foundation(NBAF) and Social Development.
These sessions
Focus on the needs of older children and those with complex needs who may be harder to find placements for.
Aim to broaden applicants' openness to consider older children and children with more complex needs.
Are an opportunity for Social Development to share non-identifying profiles of children and youth.
Help educate prospective parents on the realities of the needs of waiting children.

Goals
To increase openness to consider matches with older children and children with more complex needs.
Raise awareness and empathy for children in care with stories of real children without permanent families
Spark potential matches for children who are harder to place.
Shift the focus: Decrease the frustration with the process applicants often feel & shift focus to decision-making for them.

This morning has been a whirlwind with e-mails and calls. I have had three families interested in the first child I presented and a couple interested in another child. Both have been VERY hard to match in our region and across the Province.
Following the presentation of our profiles we have 2 families interested, it's wonderful…
